The “Leadership Crisis:” Is it real? What is the crisis? What are the current challenges facing the understanding of leadership?

This webinar will provide global insights into turning around this “leadership crisis” by addressing the following questions:
  • Is leadership the enemy of the people?
  • Why are implicit leadership theories so persistent?
  • How does leadership development differ from the personal development of leaders?
  • What happens to leadership in times of adversity?
People accept that leadership is needed but are also deeply mistrustful about our so-called leaders in society. It is leadership that is required rather than leaders. Theories on leadership have long dominated courses, books and training departments. However, in recent years we seem to be witnessing fewer inspirational examples of good leadership, and instead are faced with myriad examples of corruption and misbehaviour from our so-called leaders. The recent actions of bankers, corporate directors, sports bodies, the media and politicians, have all made the concept of moral, transformative and authentic leadership seem a thing of the past.

New Thinking on Leadership: A Global Perspective, edited by Hilarie Owen, brings together a groundbreaking collection of the latest thinking from leading global figures in leadership studies from the corporate and academic world, including Warren Bennis, pioneer of the contemporary field of leadership studies, and Tracey Manning, a specialist in transformational leadership development and leadership education at University of Maryland. Hilarie will provide listeners with a global picture of where our leadership understanding is and the challenges facing it in the future. She will also show the relevance of organisations such as ILA in the world.
