ILA’s 2023 Distinguished Leadership Award Winner, The Right Honourable Beverly McLachlin, former Chief Justice of Canada, joins Scott to discuss conscious objectivity and the work leaders need to do to actually hear opposing viewpoints through the noise of built in cognitive biases.
The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, P.C., C.C., CStJ, served as Chief Justice of Canada from 2000 to mid-December 2017. In June 2018, she was made a Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest accolade. She works in ADR as a bilingual arbitrator and mediator in Canada and internationally.
She is the author of the bestselling Jilly Truitt Defense Attorney crime novels and and award-winning autobiography, Truth Be Told: My Journey Through Life and the Law.
Host Scott J. Allen
Scott J. Allen, Ph.D., is the Robert M. Ginn Institute Professor for Leadership & Social Responsibility at John Carroll University. Allen is a professor of management and teaches courses in leadership, the future of work, and executive communication.
Scott has published more than 60 book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. He is the co-author of The Little Book of Leadership Development: 50 Ways to Bring Out the Leader in Every Employee; Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students; Captovation: Online Presentations by Design; and the textbook Discovering Leadership: Designing Your Success (2023).
