Qualitative research exists in many formats, representing numerous data sources, philosophies, and inquiry practices. However, we often know little about the background work involved in qualitative data analysis. This webinar will dive deeper into the ways that data can be qualitatively analyzed that go beyond “Theme Emerged.”
Attendees Will:
- Explore examples of the often messy reality of qualitative data analysis based on examples from the book’s chapters.
- Understand the diversity of ways researcher approach qualitative data analysis.
- Be introduced to How Qualitative Data Analysis Happens Moving Beyond “Themes Emerged” 2nd edition.
M. Elise Radina, PhD, CFLE , is Professor, Department of Family Science and Social Work, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Elise is a qualitative methodologist whose research focuses broadly on families and health. She primarily studies mid- and later-life women in family contexts (e.g., breast cancer survivorship, positive aging, breast cancer-related lymphedema). She has published over 60 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Radina ‘s work has appeared in the Journal of Family Theory & Review, Family Relations, the Journal of Women & Aging, Cancer Nursing, and the Journal of Family Nursing. She serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Family Theory & Review, and has served as a guest co-editor on two special issues for the journal. The special issue whose title was “Qualitative Methodology, Research, and Theory in Family Studies” was co-guest edited with Anisa Zvonkovic and Elizabeth Sharp.
Áine M. Humble, PhD , is Professor, Department of Family Studies and Gerontology at Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She carries out primarily qualitative research in family studies and in gerontology. Her current research interests focus on LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) families and aging issues , older women and healthy aging, qualitative research methods, and computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software programs (CAQDAS). She has published her work in scholarly journals such as the Canadian Journal on Aging, Family Relations, Journal of Family Theory and Review, Journal of GLBT Family Studies, and the Journal of Women & Aging. She currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Women and Aging and is an Editorial Assistant for Qualitative Sozialforschung/Forum Qualitative Social Research. From 2009 to 2623: Dr. Humble provided introductory and advanced training on MAXQDA qualitative data analysis software through her consulting company, Fada Research Consulting, to academic and government audiences.
