Our lives are busy. There are so many things competing for our time and attention; boundaries get blurred, especially if you work from home. All these different responsibilities can make life feel like a tug-of-war. How many of us have said we are going to work less and spend more time on health, hobbies, and family? How do we blend everything together to create one harmonious life? There is no easy, one-size-fits-all answer. However, work and life don’t have to be mutually exclusive. We can have both, and we should have both. Healthier, happier people make for better managers, leaders, and employees.

In this webinar, we will look at the differences between work life harmony and work life balance as well as the added dimensions of work-from-home and studying. After identifying our competing interests, we will discuss the effects of work-life imbalance on us and those around us. With these insights in mind, we will look at how to define and design a life that is right for each of us by discussing different approaches to work life harmony and acknowledging that work life harmony continuously evolves throughout our lives.

In this webinar, participants will

  • get off the hamster wheel and pause to think about what they really want and why
  • learn different approaches to work life harmony
  • find their own (perfectly imperfect) version of work life harmony

The presenter will also share from her personal experience with burnout. Six years ago, despite having taught and led discussions on this topic for 30 years, she suffered from burnout trying to crisscross Africa and simultaneously set up operations in multiple countries for her employer while working on her PhD in the United States, speaking at conferences, buying a home in a foreign country, and answering every “can you help me with….” request with “absolutely.” Her experiences reinvigorated her work in this area and deepened her insight that work life harmony continuously evolves as we move through life.

Deanne DeVries

Dr. Deanne de Vries believes in living life to the full – be that hiking to Everest Base Camp, walking across borders in Africa, baking cookies, raising others up, sailing to a friend’s wedding, or teaching the “why” behind things.

A 30-year career living and working in 14 countries on 5 continents has shaped her into a polyglot who loves public speaking, writing, different cultures, laughter, learning, and bringing her whole self to work. It has also given her deep experience in solving complex problems by bringing the right people and solutions together.

She’s continually striving for harmony between a demanding work and travel schedule and those can’t-miss moments in her life and those of her family and friends. A great story teller, Dr. Deanne loves sharing what she’s learned in and through life as a keynote speaker, international best-selling author and C-suite advisor.
