Author Max Klau shares details of his trial-and-error efforts to build a model to develop organizational capacity and guide large numbers of servant leaders through a process of inner development. Through years of failure and experimentation, he found ways to invite large numbers of often skeptical and resistant individuals into the work of reflecting on purpose, integrating their shadow, and confronting complexity.

Equally important, the model he honed reveals how to integrate this inner work with an equally clear focus on impact in the outer world, allowing organizations to maintain a dual focus on inner and outer change in powerful and scalable ways. The approach has been proven to be powerful and effective with diverse audiences including idealistic young AmeriCorps members, sitting members of Congress, and social entrepreneurs in India and Bangladesh.

At this moment when so many individuals seek power to fill hungers for power, domination, adulation, and greed, this book illuminates a path to developing vast numbers of civic leaders who are committed to serving others.
