Book Buzz from The International Leadership Association 2022 Global Conference. Authors Brent Cusher and Mark Menaldo discuss their book Philosophy and Leadership: Three Classical Models and Cases.
Philosophy is more than an academic discipline; it is, more fully, a comprehensive way of life animated by the love of wisdom. This book explores how the careful study of philosophic texts leads one toward living this kind of life and, in the process, enriches both the theory and practice of leadership. The talk makes the case for identifying philosophy in this way and provides a brief commentary on how the work of three philosophers (Plato, Aristotle, and Niccolò Machiavelli) can contribute to the study and practice of leadership. The authors also provide a sketch of key leadership cases in the book such as Alexander the Great and Nelson Mandela.
Brent Edwin Cusher is Associate Professor of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University and Mark Antonio Menaldo is Associate Professor of Liberal Studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
