Previous Power of Purpose (POP) summits defined purpose and determined how it is enacted in our organizations. Now we want to know how to measure the results. In 2021, the International Leadership Association and Benedictine University’s Center for Values-Driven Leadership will host two POP events that will culminate with the publication of a book, designed as a guide for practitioners who want to establish meaningful metrics for measuring the impact of purpose in their organization.

Zero in on the Impact of Leading with Purpose

Purpose-driven organizations have loyal customers, engaged employees, strong community reputations, and better bottom lines. While the research is clear — purpose matters — it can be difficult to lead without metrics and principles to guide the CEOs, CFOs, and other leaders who must put purpose into action. We plan to remedy this gap.

At Power of Purpose III, top executives and leading management scholars will gather to develop a model for the measurement of purpose’s impact on traditional business metrics including growth, revenue and profit, engagement, customer satisfaction, and client and employee retention. We will explore the role that specific groups can play in enabling organizations to be purpose-driven, including C-suite executives, boards, private equity investors, supply chain leaders, human resources executives, and more.

Keynote Speakers

Robert Quinn

Robert Quinn is the Margaret Elliot Tracey Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, Ross Business School and one of the co-founders of the Center for Positive Organizations. Quinn is globally known for both his research and his teaching, focused on culture, leadership, organizational change and effectiveness. He is the author of 19 books including Deep Change and The Positive Organization. His most recent book (with Anjan Thakor) is The Economics of Higher Purpose.

Anjan Thakor

Anjan Thakor is the John E. Simon Professor of Finance at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis. Previously, Thakor was The Edward J. Frey Professor of Banking and Finance at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, where he also served as chairman of the Finance area. He has worked with many companies including Whirlpool Corporation, Citigroup, Zenith Corporation, J.P. Morgan, CIGNA, Waxman Industries, Reuters, The Limited, AT&T, and Tyson Foods. He is the co-author (with Robert Quinn) of The Economics of Higher Purpose.

Gail Auerbach, Former CHRO of Masonite

Gail Auerbach is an Executive Fellow for the Center for Higher Ambition Leadership. She has over 35 years of experience in human resources leadership, working for General Electric, Bausch & Lomb, and 2 international corporations. She recently retired as CHRO from Masonite International, a $3 billion revenue global manufacturing company, with 15,000 employees. During her 10 years with Masonite, Gail helped lead through chapter 11 restructuring, managed 24 acquisitions, and achieved a public listing on the NYSE. In addition to building the HR function, she launched a global purpose initiative … We help People Walk Through Walls.

Jeff Blade

Jeff Blade, Former CFO of Vera Bradley

Jeff Blade serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership, the leading organization committed to building community around the philosophy and practice of servant-leadership. Professionally, Jeff is the CFO / COO of Herff Jones, the leading provider of graduation and educational products and services. Jeff’s career has spanned early stage, private equity backed growth companies, new public companies, the IPO process, turn-around situations, and company governance. Throughout, he has relied on his personal leadership philosophy grounded in servant leadership, which have enabled the building of purpose focused and results driven organizations.

Cheryl A. Harris

Cheryl Harris, SVP of Procurement, Allstate

Cheryl A. Harris is the Chief Procurement Officer at Allstate. In this role, Cheryl manages Allstate’s $4B spend portfolio to deliver value, mitigate risk, cultivate innovation, and develop talent. Cheryl also oversees Allstate’s Supplier Inclusion and Sustainability programs. Prior to Allstate, Cheryl served as the Americas Procurement Delivery Managing Director at Accenture. Over her 30+-year career, Cheryl has been recognized as an innovative and inclusive leader. Recent recognition includes being named as one of the Most Powerful Black Women in Corporate America (2018 & 2019), and one of the Most Powerful Black Executives in Corporate America (2017).

Eric Larson

Eric Larson, Co-Founder/Co-CEO Tilia Holdings LLC

Eric Larson, Co-Founder of Tilia, has 35 years of experience starting and building private equity firms. Formed in 2017, Tilia focuses on investments in technical business-to-business services in the food supply chain. Prior to Tilia, Eric was the founder and senior investment professional for two private equity firms: Linden Capital Partners (2001 – 2017) and First Chicago Equity Capital (1991 – 2000), now One Equity Partners. Eric started his investment career in 1986 with Madison Dearborn Partners (fka First Chicago Venture Capital). Eric has an undergraduate degree (Biology) from Harvard University and graduate degrees from University of Michigan and University of Chicago.
