Dr. Laura Empson discusses power structures and dynamics in professional business environments that make for successful organizational management.
Dr. Empson is Professor in the Management of Professional Service Firms at Bayes Business School, University of London, and holds Research Fellowships at both Harvard Law School and the University of Cambridge. She has dedicated 30 years to researching professionals, professionals, and the professions, and is a globally recognized expert in their leadership and governance. Her research also explores organizational and cultural change; growth and leadership transitions; mergers and acquisitions; professional careers; and the future of professional work. In addition to dozens of publications in leading academic journals, she has published several books with Oxford University Press including Managing the Modern Law Firm and Leading Professionals: Power, Politics, and Prima Donnas.

Scott J. Allen, Ph.D., is an award-winning educator passionate about working with people at all levels and across industries. He spent more than 20 years as a professor of management, and his areas of expertise include leadership, leader development, the future of work, and executive communication. He is the founder and Principal at S & J Allen, LLC and formerly the Robert M. Ginn Institute Professor for Leadership & Social Responsibility at John Carroll University.
Scott has published more than 60 book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. He is the co-author of The Little Book of Leadership Development: 50 Ways to Bring Out the Leader in Every Employee; Emotionally Intelligent Leadership: A Guide for College Students; Captovation: Online Presentations by Design; and the textbook Discovering Leadership: Designing Your Success (2023).
