In this episode, Dan and Lauren speak with Dr. Nathan Eva and Katrina Johnson about designing a Master’s of Indigenous Business Leadership program. The joint effort, supported by the William Cooper Institute and the Monash Business School in Australia, is a transformational leadership program designed to strengthen the Indigenous workforce in Australia. The quartet discusses the opportunities and challenges of creating a program that honors Indigenous practices and reflects leadership literature worldwide.
About Dr. Nathan Eva
Nathan Eva, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Management at the Monash Business School, Australia. Nathan was awarded the 2016 and 2013 Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and nominated for Monash University’s 2017 and 2016 Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence for his local and international leadership development units. Nathan’s research focuses on servant, collective and ethical leadership and has appeared in leading international outlets such as The Leadership Quarterly, Human Resource Management, and Journal of Business Ethics.
About Katrina Johnson
Katrina Johnson was the team lead consultant to develop and deliver the new Master of Indigenous Business Leadership with Monash Business School & William Cooper Institute’s Master of Indigenous Business Leadership program. She is also Managing Director of Cartymara Consulting, providing media, public relations and business management, and cultural safety consulting.
About the Hosts
Lauren Bullock is an Assistant Professor of Instruction at Temple University, where she teaches leadership development and public relations courses. Before transitioning to full-time faculty, Lauren led the university’s leadership development co-curricular programs for six years. Before joining Temple in 2008, Lauren worked in athletic administration at Florida State University and the University of Texas at Austin.
Dan Jenkins is Professor of Leadership & Organizational Studies at the University of Southern Maine. He received his doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Florida. Dan has published more than 40 articles and book chapters on leadership education and is the co-author of The Role of Leadership Educators: Transforming Learning. As an award-winning international speaker and facilitator, Dan has engaged thousands of leadership educators, students, and professionals on topics such as leadership pedagogy, followership, and curriculum and course design. Dan is also a past Chair of the ILA Leadership Education MIG, Co-Founder of the ILA Leadership Education Academy, Co-Host of The Leadership Educator Podcast, Vice-Chair of the Collegiate Leadership Competition, and Co-Lead of the Association of Leadership Educators Teaching & Pedagogy/Andragogy Focus Area Network.
