Women & Leadership: Research, Theory, and Practice

Women and Leadership: Research, Theory, and Practice is a new series of books that will be published in upcoming years to inform leadership scholars and practitioners. The overall series will be cross-disciplinary and will represent organizational/institutional, national, and international perspectives. Each volume will focus on a specific theme, with chapters related to relevant research, theory, and practice. Across the series, a goal is to enhance knowledge and application about the leadership experiences and leadership development of women in different sectors, geographic regions, and personal/professional contexts.

Building Leadership Bridges

Building Leadership Bridges (BLB) captures the best contemporary thinking about leadership from a diverse range of scholars, practitioners, and educators working in the field of leadership and leadership studies. In keeping with the mission of the ILA, the series connects ways of researching, imagining, and experiencing leadership across cultures, over time, and around the world. From 2011 – 2014, the series was published by Jossey-Bass/Wiley. In 2015 the series moved to Emerald Group Publishing.

Journal of Leadership Studies

In partnership with Jossey-Bass/Wiley, the ILA offers members free online access to the Journal of Leadership Studies. Launched in 2007, the mission of the Journal of Leadership Studies is to publish leadership research and theoretical contributions that bridge the gap between scholarship and practice and that exemplify critical inquiry into contemporary organizational issues and paradigms. The journal promotes interdisciplinary and interorganizational theory, fostering dialogue that transcends industry specific contexts and that explores leadership’s role in improving organizational practices and human life. Published material in the journal includes research-based and theoretical papers that explicitly address leadership on various social, cultural, and organizational contexts. The journal incorporates contributions from business, non-profit organizations, government entities, education, and health care; however, the emphasis on leadership theory and practice spans the boundaries between these settings to promote discussions that center on human activity and interrelations. Accordingly, material published in the journal represents a wide range of methodological approaches and theoretical foundations of leadership.
